Q: How do I adopt a dog?

A: Complete an adoption application provided below, participate in a screening process, and meet the dog. If approved, you will finalize the adoption agreement and adoption fee.

Q: How much is the adoption fee, and what is included?

A: The adoption fee at LHR Foster and Rescue is $300 and helps cover:

  • Spay/neuter surgery
  • Vaccinations
  • Microchipping
  • Heartworm testing
  • Flea and tick prevention
  • Veterinary care while in rescue

Q: Why do you charge an adoption fee?

A: Adoption fees offset only a very small portion of the costs associated with rescuing and caring for dogs. For example, the average cost of Medina dog neutering alone is $250 and spays average more than twice that cost.

Q: Can I meet a dog before adopting?

A: Yes. Approved applicants are typically are required to meet the dog through a scheduled meet-and-greet at least once before being released.

Q: Do you adopt outside your local area?

Q: Can I adopt if I rent my home?

A: We require adopters to return the dog to our rescue rather than rehome the dog independently.
